Poster Sale
During the first week of classes, beginning on Saturday, August 19th through Friday, August 25th, NAEA will be hosting the annual Poster Sale. Everyday in the plaza between the Milner Library and the Bone Student Center, Poster Sale will be going on from 8:30am-6:30pm. This is our biggest and busiest event and it starts our year off with a bang! Because it's our main fundraising event for the whole Art Ed Department it requires the most volunteers and energy. The funds we raise from the Poster Sale will be the main source of NAEA Student Chapter funds and we depend on such for the entire school year. Because of the importance of the Poster Sale, each executive board member of NAEA will be required to volunteer at minimum 5 hours! For any questions, concerns, etc., please contact the NAEA Student Chapter President, Rebecca Siegel. Sweetcorn Blues Festival The Sweetcorn Blues Festival in Uptown Normal will take place on Saturday August 26 @ 10 am-5pm and Sunday, August 27 @ 11am-4pm (or until the corn runs out!) This event provides over 50,000 ears of fresh corn, fun activities, arts and crafts, and vendors; including the NAEA Student Chapter booth. Our NAEA booth will provide a quick, fun, take-away art activity for kids as well as help advertise our Saturday Art Classes that we partake in every September of the school year. This event is a fun way for us to connect with kids and families in the Blomington-Normal community. For any questions, concerns, etc., please contact the NAEA Student Chapter Liaison, Jennifer Grubczak. Festival ISU On Thursday, August 31st, Illinois State will host their annual Festival ISU on the quad from 10am-3pm. Every year NAEA sets up a booth and provide an exciting art activity to create more awareness about the importance of art education in schools and universities. This helps to promote our organization on campus, and connect with potential new students and members. For any questions, concerns, etc., please contact the NAEA Student Chapter Advertising Manager, April Flint. Buddy Walk Buddy Walk is an event held by the Central Illinois Down Syndrome Organization to increase the awareness of Down Syndrome. This one mile walk and event takes place on Saturday, September 23rd. Every year NAEA takes part in this awareness by setting up a booth in the school where we provide an art experience associated with the walk and all the other fun activities and entertainment. It's a great way to interact with a diverse group of kids, their parents, family, and friends! For any questions, concerns, etc., please contact the NAEA Secretary, April Lewis. IAEA Annual State Conference The annual Illinois Art Education Association (IAEA) Conference will be occurring on Thursday, November 30th, through Saturday, December 2nd, 2017 in St. Charles, IL. This State Conference allows students, members, and faculty to explore opportunities and to network and interact with Art Educators from all over Illinois through participating in workshops, presentations, hands-on art making events, and meetings. **The cost for a student member cost $100.00. For any questions, concerns, etc., please contact the NAEA Student Chapter Vice President, Diana Pacheco. Illinois Student Chapters Winter Meeting This annual meeting is a chance for all Illinois NAEA Student Chapters to meet, network and discuss current issues in art education. Usually, there will be a lunch provided and then students from all over Central Illinois participate in a special gallery show or museum tour in the area where the meeting is held. This year, the Winter Meeting will be held at MOCA in Chicago. It's a great way to start off the Spring semester and meet other students from near by universities! Further information on the Winter Meeting will be discussed towards the end of the Fall semester. Instructions and details on when, where, and transportation will also be discussed at a later date. As for now, for any questions, concerns, etc., please contact the NAEA Student Chapter President, Rebecca Siegel. Leroy Arts Festival Collaboratively teaching art to elementary students at the Leroy Art Festival is a very rewarding and exciting experience that members of NAEA Student Chapter have been involved in for several years. This festival allows members to work individually, or with a partner, to develop and deliver a unique art learning experience for very eager participants; ages ranging from Kindergarten to Fifth grade! Every year, Leroy Arts Festival will take place on a Saturday in late February. The exact date is TBD and will be held at Leroy Elementary School in Leroy, IL. This event will be hosted by NAEA Student Chapter Vice President. Further information on how to sign up to volunteer for a day at the Leroy Arts Festival will be provided at a later date! For any questions, concerns, etc., please contact the NAEA Vice President, Diana Pacheco. NAEA National Convention The NAEA National Convention is a three-day National Convention which includes over 1,000 participatory workshops, panels, seminars, research reports, discussions, exhibits, and tours. You can participate in the National Student Chapter Round Table session and other events; there are plenty opportunities to participate in keynote addresses by world-acclaimed educators, artists, researchers, and scholars. This is also a great opportunity to connect with your colleagues nation wide! Each year, some almost 200 exhibitor booths display the latest art textbooks, high-tech software, prints, slides, curriculum materials, equipment, programs, up to speed studio and art history media; as well as FREE art materials! Yes-free! It's like a playground for future and current art teachers! This year, the 2016 NAEA National Conference will be held in Seattle, Washington. This fundraiser can be decided upon by the Executive Board of the Student Chapter. This fundraiser should strive to raise money to help reimburse for gas in hopes to encourage members to attend National Conference, wherever it may be located. This tradition began during the 2015-2016 school year, where the Executive Board hosted a Valentine's Day Bake Sale in February in the Airport Lounge, located in Centennial West. As for now, for any questions, concerns, etc., please contact the NAEA Treasurer, Erika Barber. Art Education Exhibition The Art Education Exhibition is an exciting even for the members of NAEA and the Art Education community. Having this exhibition allows for our fellow art students to see that we are future art educators as well as practicing artists. This is the time to show the skill of art education students here at ISU. In 2018, the Art Education Exhibition will be held in Transpace Gallery in the Center for Visual Arts. As for now, for any questions, concerns, etc., please contact the NAEA Event Coordinator Assistant, Lauren Guttschow, |
