PAST SPECIAL INVOLVEMENT

The Art of Teaching •
February 19 – March 8, 2014

Art Educators are known for teaching children about art. Yet, there is far more to an art educator than just teaching. Along with studio majors, Art Education students are practicing artists and each produce bodies of work outside of lesson planning and preparing materials. This show at Transpace Gallery, in the Center for Visual Arts at ISU, featured studio work from Art Education students at Illinois State University and was accompanied by work from children they taught throughout their Art Education program at ISU. The show offered insight into their studio practice and teaching philosophy.

The Color Run •
October 14, 2013

The Color Run is a 5K run/walk in Chicago supporting the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization. This was a unique experience because it was less about running and more about getting covered with color and raising money for a great cause. Students paid for their own registration fees but our Chapter sponsored the ISU NAEA team's awesome t-shirt!

Student Round Tables •
November 13, 2013

We organized and promoted a Student Round Table event for all Education majors on campus. During this event presenters shared lesson plans, research projects, and teaching ideas across disciplines. It was a great networking and interdisciplinary teaching opportunity where we promoted awareness about the importance of art education and advocated for arts integration in schools.

Boys and Girls Club
2014 Mural Project
 • Bloomington

We partnered with the Teen Program at the Boys and Girls Club in Bloomington to design and create inspired murals to install throughout the
club building. This was a wonderful community outreach opportunity and a chance to work directly with teens from throughout Bloomington-Normal to inspire future generations of Boys and Girls Club kids.
